Module 1- Reader 2- Reflective feedback

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this module reader, as unlike the first reader I can link what I am reading to the work in which I am involved in which more ease.

"Learning from experience"- was the first quote which i read and the one which has stood out the most. In my line on work at the present and the continuation of my career is always going to be based in education, and i have never directly linked "learning" which "experiences"- which through reflecting on this statement i see that this is in fact fundamental to ones journey through the educational system- whether that be positive or negative, successful of unsuccessful- a journey through education is based on ones experiences!

As the work at Chickenshed is a progressive journey (which it has to be in order to continually fulfil its inclusive ideology) Reflection is key in order to evaluate, adapt, change, progress and flourish in contemporary society. This key function for Chickensheds survival I have seen is directly linked to John Dewey who defined the educational process as a "continual organisation, reconstruction and transformation of experience" and he also mentioned the Arts as leading to a "unique and valuable experience". Which ties in exactly with how i would like my future in education to be shaped. I believe the Arts provide a much larger platform for individuals to learn and develop without the restrictions of exams and tick boxes- which at this present time is all that is being offered to individuals under the age of 16- ironically enough it is under the age of 16 where the success in education is essential in order to continue in further education.

Although I found this handbook interesting and did not have to force myself to continue reading, it baffles me that philosophers have identified that if  individuals are engaged with their experiences they become a better part of society and therefore solving worldly problems. If this has been identified then why are there not more functions in order to aid this engagement? It seems like such an easy way to start to improve life- starting from  secondary socialisation- a process which has been determined as the most influential processes in a young persons life.

Whilst reading David Kolbs division of experiences into different stages. I struggled to grasp the concept which was trying to be explained to me. Therefore i decided to use his diagram and directly link it to a process i am very familiar with- which is Chickenshed journey to where it is now. I couldn't figure out how to rotate it so sorry if you have to tilt your head.

This cycles has and continues to be used at Chickenshed- I can see this though its development of education, its shows for younger children and it workshops for older people. Through directly linking Kolbs theory to my life it made it a lot easier to understand "what is being defined to me as Grahman Mcfree states is very important.

My final point which I has stuck out to me in the hand book as to the point i am at now is Gardener and his theory of multiple intelligences. He provides eight different ways in which people learn. Through this I can see why Chickenshed teaching techniques are for the most part very successfull and why i believe the educational system is failing. Chickenshed in a session trys to hit as many if not all of the intelligences which Gardener referrs to with range from verbal-linguistic to bodily-kinaesthetic. This show the variety of methods which are needed inorder to attempt to teach several individuals at one time. These different intellegences are what i believe are the main fault in mainstream education as only one intelligent (verbal-linguistic) is the only one on the list identified which is valued and can therefore achieve with. This is another reason why i would like to tackle the educational system head-on in order to try and change this falut in the system.

Using Web Tools task 1c

Despite not making a video specific to my BAPP course I was involved and feature in this promo video for Chickenshed Theatre Company. What i found interesting about this was the ease with which a video can be created edited and uploaded and can then reach such a wide audience through the platform of web-based audio visual tools such as YouTube.

This now means that the theatre can reach a wider audience expanding its community from an interest and location based group to that of a whole global one as many more can now access the company through the video and therefore their website and in turn the show, in person.

Module1-Course Reader on Proffessional Communication Technologies

Have just finished reading the first Reader- and found it (as i mentioned before) more interesting that i orgininally thought i would. Its strange that Web 2.0 platforms such as Facebook which i use everyday and take for granted- has a background of theories, reasearch and issues.
I had never thought about how online systems support collective intelligence until reading about "Gruber's" 3 conponents on how this happens. Most of these conponents i knew happened (and had frequently used them myself) but had not put them in the catagory as benifits to the system (if im making any sense).
It was quite overwhelming to see how the systems have grown so rapily eg Facebook starting out with only 1500 in 2004- and in 2010 having over 400 million members.
On the whole i dont really have anymore thoughts i dont think- I pretty much agreed with everything i read, and didnt disagree too much with anything i read. I did sometimes think that too much thought did go into what i was reading- BUT that is because i have just started out and havent yet developed the love and passion for Web.20- i will eventually.

First Blog- "Youth offenders experience" and Initial thoughts on module one reader

First blog, dont really know what to write but i'll give it a go.
This week has been very hectic but one that I dont think i will ever forget. At the moment I am part of a touring show called "Crime of the Century" this is a dance production which is issue based theatre trying to tackle Knife crime and anti- gang violence. This show has been touring for 3 years and is now just touring schools. In the show i play the "victims mother" which is a very hard part to play as in 2008 i lost my cousin Shaquille Smith to knife crime.
On Tuesday we went to a young offenders prision to perform the show and do a workshop with them. I can honestly say I havent been that nervous for a performance for a very very long time. When we was waiting in the hall waiting for them to come in, i was thinking about all the worse case cinareos which could happen. Then when they did actually walk in the fear which i had of performing infront of them completed melted away and what I saw was 15 children walking into a space, and i could only imagen the stories and the experiences which these young individuals had been through. They reacted to the show so well and were one of the best audiences we have ever had, they showed total and utter respect to the show which is dedicated to my cousin.
During the workshop they were very reluctant to talk initally- and couldnt gage what "Chickenshed" was or who we were to them- we quickly showed them that we were not any type of authoritative figure, nor someone preech to them about the mistakes which they have made in the past. We just wanted to talk to them and find out their view on the issues- which were the reasons why they were in prison for violent crimes.
This experience has pushed me further to continue my research on the power of theatre and performing arts in direct relation to issues, and the disscussion of these issues.

I have also started the Module One Task Reader- "Professional Communication Technologies"- initial thoughts when i started reading this was that it had no relation to what i wanted to do in the future. But then forcing myself to continue reading i found that actually it is very much relevent to my life and my future career. Its quite interesting to know how we take social networking for granted now as it is so easily accessible, not thinking about the stages in which it has taken Web to get to this point. Anyways im still a little bit confused with what i am reading and what my "developed thoughts" will be so when i finish, we'll see what happens.

About Me
I am currently studying for a BA in Proffessional Practice related to Inclusive Performance with Middlesex University at the Chickenshed Theatre Company. I have chosen to continue my studies at Chickenshed Theatre Company as I have been a member of this theatre company since the age of seven, when I started the Children’s Theatre. I choose to do the Foundation Degree course which they offered in order to gain a further understanding of their ethos- and gain practical experiences of how they work, especially within education, and now the BA which is a continuation of the learning which I have received whilst being a member of this company.
Studying at Chickenshed has allowed me to work with a wide range of individuals, from various age groups, backgrounds and abilities in regards to performing arts. Through this range of experiences, I have discovered that my passion lies within education in an inclusive environment, and what this actually entails.
