Inquiry questions

So its been awhile and after a sharp wake up call i have scrapped the work i did before and started agian.

These are some questions which i have created....what ive done this time is not cheat and ask questions that really i already new the answers to...i also want to generate both qualitative and quantitative data if i can- as i believe that provides a more solid foundation for my research results.

1) What leads the thematic drive in issue based theatre? The issue? Or the theatre?

2) Is it more impactful to devide and perform issue based theatre in an inclusive environment with an inclusive cast?

3)What percentage of young people involved in an issue based project need to be directly connected to the issue?

b) Can issue based theatre which only workd with those directly assosiated with the issue be considered seperate or excluded?

4) Does issue based theatre show a higher Social Return on Investment (SROI) than other forms of theatre?

b) How does this apply to Chickenshed?

5) What percentage of young people who have experiences Chickenshed's anti-gang violence piece "Crime of the Century) believe it was.....
a) able to positively impact on gang violence
b)able to positively impact on the own ability to effect change in their lives
c)belive it was potentilly irrelevent to their lives

These questions i composed because i am generally interested in the responce, i think it will be challenging to accurately find answers to them..and also i believe my result can benifit Chickenshed developement of Issue based theatre.

Please let me know what you think, how i can impove what you dont think works etc?

OR TIPS!

  1. Hi Jojo,

I found your blog when searching through fellow BAPPer's and saw that we share an interest. I am really interested in getting involved in inclusive theatre and would love to know more about your work at Chickenshed.

Your prospective questions are very specific as you have a lot of knowledge in the field you want to explore. It is great that you have recognised that you need to find a question that you do not know the answer too and that will benefit Chickenshed.

I think it is important to think of yourself too - make sure you choose a question that really interests you as we will be spending a lot of time on it.

Just my own personal opinion question 3 sounds really interesting and maybe question 5 could be incorporated into this. Maybe you could explore a variety of projects in comparison to each other to gain a more rounded view of the impact chickenshed is having.

    Just food for thought.

Take a look at my questions if you have a minute would appreciate your thoughts.

  2. Hey Jojo,

There are some great questions here. I think the questions aren't to be answered really. More they point towards your area that you wish to inquire about. As I found, we need to make sure the questions are clear. Does everybody know what chicken shed is? Issue based theatre and SRIO etc? They way we ask questions is important as you only get one shot at collecting data so you want to get it right straight off. By broadening your questions and opening them up to other areas of the arts you will maybe gather more colourful data. The questions seem specific to your individual world of practice maybe.

Number on is good and by the way I think you been the issue and the theatre to make it work. One can't live without the other.

    Hope this helps

    1. Hi Ahmet

Thanks for your comment. Youd efinately made me look at my questions an re-evalute if they were far too narrow to my world. What i will do is open them out like you say but then see if some of the proffessionals i talk to bring up the limitations of SRIO- instead of potentially pushing them into a leading question as to how i feel about SRIO.

Your comment on question number 1 sparked a conversation i had with an organisation who completly turned away from the arts as a medium to tackling issue (its my most recent blog) and your comment "one cant live without the other" has pushed my thought further that it actually definately cant! but i need to research that...or im just being very biased.

thankyou so much for your feedback.

whenever you have a chance see if you can keep an eye on my blog and i will do the same as your opinions are helping a great deal
