THE QUESTION...potentially...

Is Issue based theatre in an inclusive environment more effective than other organisations/theatres that practice in an "non-inclusive" environment?

The wording of this question will be adapted changed..but thoughts on it would be great to see if it the correct road to go down...

  1. Jojo - yes - a good starting point for what you are doing - refine or define effective - it is not about proving something but finding out about how inclusive practice can influence or impact how issue based theatre is conceived of? presented? received by the audience? can develop the skills and knowledge for participants and audience?

SAMPLE SEARCHING FOR LITERATURE TO GIVE YOU AND OTHERS IDEAS what I do is begin looking at the questions through a google search - key words 'issue based theatre' - choose the sites that mean something instead of letting Google just choose them for you... e.g. http://www.tellmeatale.org that leads to http://seeingbeyondtheatre.blogspot.co.uk

Try using the key words 'theatre issue-based' on Summons and tick the box to the left about full text online and journal article ((this pattern can be used for other search words)

I think comparing what you do with others is valid and it will lead to you knowing more about your own practice so that you wi be able to articulate to others your skills and abilities in this important area.

Some of your other blogs this study period give some convincing background rational and motivation for your work.

Start also to incorporate the tasks from Parts 4 and 5 and 6 to scaffold this development beyond what you already know to a more sophisticated and critical evaluation of issue based theatre. Some good tutor blogs up - comment so we know you've been there.

    Hope that helps. Bw

  2. Hi Jojo,

I agree with Paula, It's definitely a great area to start. But I do feel some refining needs to happen. The important thing I think I'm learning is that to get people involved into our research we have to kind of sell it for it's interest factor and importance. I'm already finding the challenges of people finding it all too intense. I think by refining and pin pointing our inquiry more, we can make our research more accessible to more people.
